“You also must be ready.” (Luke 12:40)

Dear Family and Friends,

Tomorrow is the big day.  I start my first infusion at 8am PDT at UCLA.  Let’s do this!

I had to find another way to celebrate the anniversary of my Marine Corps commissioning today, since the infusion was bumped a day.  You might have read a certain guy’s wife’s Facebook re-post with some very strong negative emotions directed toward…neopolitan ice cream.

I found some neopolitan ice cream sandwiches (?) in our freezer (?!!)  Who bought these, anyway?  I figured I would respond to that post with a celebratory downing of one of these ice cream sandwiches.  I also thought it might send a few people over the edge by eating it like corn on the cob.  And why not start in the middle, right on the strawberry-vanilla border?  Dear internet, did I do that correctly?

Snooty food review: This dairy-themed novelty is the perfect tribute to its older brother, the ice cream sandwich.  The nose is a distinct strawnilate.  The interplay of the triumvirate of tastes achieves a sophistication few confections can boast.  Nestled between “chocolate”…wafers (?), these three artificially-flavored crown jewels please the most discerning palates, both with their bold interpretation of the referenced flavors and an extraordinarily smooth mouthfeel.  The masterful yet whimsical Kroger branding “Snowboard Sandwiches” hearkens to magical distant memories of both snowboards and sandwiches.  This reviewer’s sole critique would be that the “strawberry” end needs more red dye #4 so that the selfies one is inevitably bound to take truly capture a deep pink worthy of the flavor.  Pair with Silver Oak Cabernet.  This dessert will age admirably through the end of June.

With fortitude and prayers for you,

Jim
